With a blink of an eye, Singapore turns 45! The changes that she had made over the years seemed to have come a long way, but then again, it seemed like yesterday.
Strangely enough, I felt more into the 'Happy Birthday Singapore!' mood this year, as compared to many other years. Perhaps it was the long weekend break, or perhaps it was just the feeling of being grateful and appreciative.
Not holding onto a Singapore citizenship, yet being brought up in this diversified country all my life, it makes me feel as if I am a part of this small city. Having come to such an age, Singapore has always been the one providing me with education, food and a roof over my head. Speaking of which reminds me of what my cousins from Canada asked me the other day - whether I'm more of a Singaporean, or more of my country of origin. Without second thoughts, I told them that I'm more Singaporean.
Trying really hard to recall, I never remembered how my previous schools celebrated National Day. Perhaps except for the parades and the sing-along sessions. However, my school this year celebrate National Day in one of the most memorable ways. The whole school was given balloons, either red or white, and we released them together.
That sight ... It's was the first time that I had that really strong feeling of life being pictured as beautiful and magnificent. I took a deep breath, and smiled.
